geborgenkamers

Art with its continuous expansion or acceptance of new forms is constantly repositioning the limits of its language; society regards multiplicity as a problem and therefore comes out more as a rigid defender of its own forms than a renewer. There are items in the programme that deal with accepted forms like cinema, video and painting but we also included items that the art world find controversial; and that because they have always been called – and fairly – craftworks. The Stichting Gaidaro, with big admiration for the things that people make, imagine and construct will try to include from now on projects in the Geborgen Kamers that manifest this craftsmanship but always place it within the context and the qualities of an art work.

Exhibition of artworks made with textile techniques like embroidering, sewing, weaving, knitting or any textile technique that involves handwork.

'Mama's Arts'.

  • The importance of being Five
In many traditions around the world the fifth birthday is considered an achievement. I guess it can be in real something to be congratulated for (that you made it up to here; a concept that stays attached to each birthday, especially to the later ones, or the latest ones) involving all related persons, as they [...]
  • 2012: on track
The new year means battle in the streets of The Hague which starts in the morning of 31 December with junior crackers and ends late in the night after the year change with major noise and flame attacks. Smoke and  dust pass by the windows and fire residues cover all the flat surfaces. There are [...]

  • remember
A black woman clutching a pair of golden sunglasses raises her hand out of an open white dustbin bag . Her hand now, above her head, signalling. A triumphant smile, lost and found.  Street cleaners, some 20 meter back, acknowledge the gesture, then swoop their bodies down in their task and move on. I  cycle [...]
  • lets talk and do nothing for 200 euro.
I move towards the telephone, ahh should I call? It will be all or  nothing. In December they wanted to give me 300 Euro to buy Christmas lights to fill up the shop window. I had my own, not 300 Euros worth, but 30 tiny lights that would go on and off in various speeds. [...]
  • A report on the 4th Beijing international art biennale
My first contact with China was in 1987. I was travelling on the Tanzania Railway. The railway was built by the Chinese in the 70ties and still runs 1800 km from Dar es Salaam into the middle of Zambia. Chinese tracks, bridges, locomotives, coaches and stations in pale mint green were constructed, build and dotted [...]
